At the 6th Edition of Clean Cooking Week in Kilifi County, Kenya, Willah Nabukwangwa, KEMRI researcher and coordinator of the @CLEAN-Air(Africa) schools clean cooking programme joined stakeholders to support Kenya’s clean cooking agenda for health, dignity, and human rights.

Willah highlighted the significant dangers to health from reliance
on polluting fuels and shared practical solutions to protect communities, particularly for households unable to fully transition to clean energy. Behaviour changes with no expenditure can help reduce exposure to household air pollution as a public health measure.

Willah is gaining national and international recognition for her research. In an interview with Kenya’s NTV, she emphasized the political urgency for transitioning populations to clean energy and encouraged communities to take practical steps toward safer cooking practices. She also contributed to an expert panel on KPIs and M&E frameworks, underlining the importance of effective tracking and actionable strategies in the sector.

Willah is spearheading efforts to provide evidence for policy on clean cooking to maximise health gain including LPG and electricity for schools and the wider community.
